Bundesliga title race: Will Bayern Munchen overtake Borussia Dortmund?

Fans look forward to watching the Bundesliga decider on Saturday (May 27) as Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munchen will face FSV Mainz 05 and FC Koln.

Borussia Dortmund is now on top with 70 points. While FC Hollywood (nickname for Bayern Munchen) is second with 68 points, raising questions about whether Thomas Tuchel’s men will climb to the top on the Bundesliga’s last game.

The match against FSV Mainz 05 at Signal Iduna Park is a must-win for the 2011/2012 Bundesliga champions, as the fate of Jude Bellingham and colleagues will not rely on other matches. If Borussia Dortmund loses to Karnevalsverein, BVB only hopes that its rivals Bayern Munchen will succumb to FC Koln or draw.

The last time BVB clinched the Bundesliga title was in the 2011/2012 campaign when now-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was in charge.

Given Bayern Munchen won the Bundesliga title in the last ten seasons, Borussia Dortmund aims to end Die Roten’s dominance this season.

Last weekend, Borussia Dortmund removed Bayern Munchen from the table’s top after defeating Augsburg 3-0 in the away game. In contrast, Thomas Muller and colleagues lost to Leipzig 1-3 at Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munchen has had a disappointing season but still can win the Bundesliga title.

Despite the disappointing season-as the manager Thomas Tuchel said in a press conference—the Bavarian still can overtake BVB in the final match and seal the Bundesliga title.

If BVB vs. Mainz 05 match ends in a draw and Bayern Munchen overcomes FC Koln, then Sadio Mane and colleagues will win the Bundesliga title thanks to a better goal difference.

Bayern Munchen has scored and conceded 90 and 37 goals in 33 matches, while BVB has booked 81 goals and conceded 42.

Bayern has lost five times in this season’s Bundesliga so far.

Borussia Dortmund’s last hopes

Die Borussen will seal the Bundesliga trophy if they win against Mainz 05 on the final day. Alternatively, BVB can secure the title if they either lose or play a draw against Mainz, and Bayern loses points against Cologne.

Borussia Dortmund aims to end Die Roten’s dominance in the last ten seasons and win their ninth Bundesliga title.

Dortmund’s manager Edin Terzic hopes his players will be in good condition in the Bundesliga’s last match.

BVB is predicted to win easily against Mainz 05 as the former won in the last four matches against the same opponent in Bundesliga.

Also, Borussia Dortmund has won in the last 11 home matches (Bundesliga).

Players to watch:

Borussia Dortmund: Youngsters such as Jude Bellingham, Karim Adeyemi, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Yousoffa Moukoko, and Gio Reyna are the team’s driving force behind the  Bundesliga title race.

However, the veteran Marco Reus and the senior defender Mats Hummels cannot be forgotten as they are the soulds of BVB. The latter has won five Bundesliga with Dortmund and Bayern Munchen.

Bayern Munchen: Thomas Muller has been consistent so far. In addition to that, players like Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala have scored 14 and 11 respectively this season.

Australia and New Zealand will host the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 from July 20 to August 20.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Australia&New Zealand: Preview

Australia and New Zealand will be the host of the FIFA Women’s World Cup from July 20 to August 20. This is the first time for the tournament to be co-hosted by two nations from different confederations.

Thirty-two teams are participating in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand, including the U.S. as the reigning champions. For the first time, this event has 32 participating countries, allowing Southeast Asian nations such as Vietnam and the Philippines and countries like Zambia to mark their debut in this tournament.

Five cities in Australia will host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023; Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney. At the same time, New Zealand has four hosting cities; Wellington, Hamilton, Dunedin, and Auckland.

When will the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup kick-off?

The  FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 kicks off on July 20. The group stage runs from July 20 to August 3. Then, the round of 16 is schedule to run from August 5 to August 8. The quarterfinals will be held from August 11 and August 12. The semifinals will be on August 15 and August 16. While the third-place match and the final will occur on August 19 and August 20, respectively.

Eight nations will mark their debuts in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Australia and New Zealand; Haiti, Zambia, Morocco, Portugal, Panama, Republic of Ireland, Vietnam, and the Philippine.

To get a better overview of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, let’s take a look at the eight groups:

Group A: New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, the Philippine

The Philippines marked their debut in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 after beating Chinese-Taipeh in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asia Cup.

This achievement is great news for Filipino women in sports after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz clinched the country’s first gold medal in the Summer Olympics 2020 in Tokyo.

New Zealand will also hunt for their first victory in the tournament while Norway-the 1995 winner—and Switzerland are predicted to qualify for the round of 16.

Group B: Australia, Republic of Ireland, Nigeria, Canada

Despite the host nation’s arduous struggle, Australia’s Sam Kerr will be one of the tournament’s goal machines. Canada—the gold medalist of women’s football in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo—is predicted to go through.

The Republic of Ireland will mark their debut in the tournament. While Nigeria can be one of the black horses despite failing to win the WAFCON title.

Group C-Spain, Costa Rica, Zambia, Japan

Spain’s preparation once was hampered by resignation demands from 15 players due to the alleged sexual harassment conducted by manager Jorge Vilda. Also, it is uncertain whether Alexia Putellas—the two-time Ballon d’Or winner—will participate in the event due to the injury.

Japan will be the real test for Spain. While Costa Rica can be a dark horse and Zambia will mark their debut in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

Group D-England, China, Haiti, and Denmark

England—the reigning women’s Euro winner—will be the this tournament’s favorite. However, Denmark and China can be threats, too, and they will likely compete for the runner-up spot if England comes as the group winner.

Group E-U.S Netherlands, Vietnam, and Portugal

The reigning champions U.S., will be predicted to go through easily. U.S. vs Netherlands—the 2019 final rematch will be the most anticipated match. Portugal can be a dark horse of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, and Vietnam will mark their debut in the tournament.

Vietnam’s football—both men’s and women’s—has seen significant progress in the past few years. In the men’s category, Vietnam national team won the 2018 AFF tournament and reached the quarterfinal of the AFC Asian Cup a year later. Their junior team reached the U-23 AFC Final in 2018 but lost to Uzbekistan.

Vietnam’s women’s football team also reached the 2018 AFC final before losing to Japan.

Group F-Brazil, France, Panama, Jamaica

Brazil and France are the heavyweights of this group, and the meeting between both teams will be one of the most exciting matches.

France’s national women’s football team have lots of potential, but they never reach the top. At the same time, Brazil’s Marta will be playing her sixth World Cup if she recovers from injury.

Group G-Sweden, Italy, Argentina, South Africa

Sweden reached the semifinals in the last three Women’s World Cups, making them one of the favorites in this tournament.

While other teams have yet to show consistent performances so far. South Africa- the Women’s World Cup winners—lost in the last four friendlies (against Australia, Brazil, and Netherlands).

Italy has yet to win a single game in the recent Euro tournament. In contrast, Argentina has yet to show progress since 2019.

However, the Italy vs. Argentina meeting will be fascinating, given none of them played each other in the women’s tournament. Both will be eager to uphold the tradition of football success, like in the men’s category.

Group H-Germany, Morocco, Colombia, South Korea

Germany will easily advance to the 16 round in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, thanks to their reputation in the Women’s World Cup. They were the 2022 Euro finalist (before losing to England) and are currently ranked 3rd in the world.

Colombia and South Korea aim to improve their performance in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 after reaching the knock-out phase in the 2015 tournament. In comparison, Morocco’s women’s football team will be the first Arab nation to take part in the World Cup. Morocco made history in the men’s category by reaching the semifinals in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Sevilla and AS Roma reached the UEFA Europa League final after ou and Bayer Leverkusen in the semifinal's second leg respectively.

Sevilla and AS Roma oust Juventus and Leverkusen to reach Europa League final

Sevilla and AS Roma reached the UEFA Europa League final after ousting Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen in the semifinal’s second leg.

Sevilla went to the UEFA Europa League final after beating Serie A giants Juventus 2-1 (3-2 on an aggregate) in a dramatic extra time at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Thursday in the second leg of the competition’s semifinal.

While Serie A sends one representative in the UEFA Europa League final following AS Roma’s win over Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen after the second leg between both sides ended in a goalless draw. Still, Il Lupi won 1-0 on aggregate due to the victory in the first leg.

Jose Mourinho is targeting a back-to-back victory with AS Roma after winning the UEFA Conference League trophy last season.

Sevilla vs Juventus

Both sides attacked each other, but all the goalkeepers displayed excellent saves in the first half.

Sevilla’s Bono and Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny denied shots and headers from Federico Gatti and Lucas Ocampos, respectively. Szczesny also denied Marcos Acuna’s left-foot attempt. Juventus almost scored their first goal three minutes before the first half ended, but the referee considered Adrien Rabiot’s goal offside. The first half ended 0-0.

Biancoeri scored their first goal from Dusan Vlahovic in the 65th minute. But Sevilla equalized six minutes later from Suso’s outside-the-box shot. The match continued to the extra time after 90 minutes. The home team finally sealed the victory following Erik Lamela’s header from Bryan Gil’s crossing.

Sevilla played with ten men after Marcos Acuna was booked for the second time for wasting time before the throw-in. Juventus failed to equalize, and Los Palanganas succeeded in reaching the UEFA Europa League final.

If Sevilla win the final this season, the trophy will be their seventh. They have won six UEFA Europa League trophies so far, with the last win -was in 2019/2020, beating Inter Milan in the final.

Pragmatic football helps AS Roma to reach UEFA Europa League final

Bayer Leverkusen needed at least a two-goal win to get to the UEFA European League final following the loss in the first leg. Playing at BayArena, Xabi Alonso’s men pressed on the visiting side–managed by Alonso’s former boss at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho.

Kerem Dermibray threatened the guests in the 7th minute, but AS Roma’s goalie Rui Patricio quickly caught the ball. Bayer Leverkusen intensified their attack in the second half, while AS Roma boosted their defence by playing Georginio Wijnaldum, who substituted Andrea Belotti.

Giallorossi’s solid defence prevented the home team from scoring a single goal. Lorenzo Pellegrini and colleagues went to the final on a 1-0 aggregate. The UEFA Europa League final between AS Roma and Sevilla will take place at Puskas Arena, Budapest, Hungary, on May 31.

This season’s final is Mourinho’s sixth final in European competition. Despite his controversial remarks, the Portuguese manager is one of the world’s most decorated and respected managers in football history. Mourinho helped his country’s club FC Porto win the UEFA Europa League (formerly known as UEFA Cup) in 2002/2003 and UEFA Champions League in 2003/2004.

In 2009.2010, the former Chelsea boss led Inter Milan to clinch the UEFA Champions League title. Then, he moved to Real Madrid. Mourinho brought the UEFA Europa League with Manchester United in the 2016/2017 campaign. Then, he led AS Roma to win the UEFA Conference League–set up by the UEFA with aims to give more opportunities for European clubs to compete in the competition–title last season.

Mourinho will face one of the toughest tests as Sevilla have beaten Italian clubs many times (including today’s match against Juventus).

Manchester City reached the Champions league final after thrashing the defending champions Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad in the semifinals.

Manchester City reach UEFA Champions League final

Manchester City are closer to their first-ever European trophy for the first time after humiliating the reigning champions Real Madrid 4-0 at Etihad in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal.

The huge win makes the Citizens win 5-1 on aggregate. Previously, in the first leg of the semifinal at Bernabeu last week, Manchester City forced the home team to play in an exciting 1-1 draw, thanks to a stunning goal from Kevin de Bruyne.

Manchester City almost scored the opener in the 6th minute, but Rodri’s went too wide. Bernardo Silva scored the first goal for the English Premier League’s giants in the 23rd minute, followed by the second in the 37th.

The Portuguese midfielder equals the records of Lionel Messi (2011) and Robert Lewandowski (2013) as the player who scored a brace in the UEFA Champions League semifinals. As of 30 minutes of the first half, Manchester City controlled the game with 76 percent of ball possession.

Manchester City’s dominant display adds misery to the 14-time champions of Europe.

Manchester City dominated the game, reaching 67 percent of ball possession in the second half. David Alaba’s free-kick almost gave Los Blancos some hope before being saved by Ederson Moraes. Manchester City’s goal machine Erling Haaland got closer to Thibaut Courtois, but the Belgian goalkeeper denied the Norwegian’s shot.

Manuel Akanji took the ball from Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick, making it 3-0 for the reigning Premier League champions. However, the goal was considered an own goal as the ball touched Eder Militao before entering El Real’s goal. Julian Alvarez added misery to Carlo Ancelotti’s men, ending Real Madrid’s hopes to defend the title this season.

Manchester City are predicted to beat Inter Milan in this season’s UEFA Champions League final

Manchester City’s outstanding victory against the defending champions Real Madrid secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League final. Manchester City will play against Inter Milan—who in the semifinal beat city rivals AC Milan 3-0 on aggregate—in the UEFA Champions League final this season, held in Istanbul, Turkiye on June 10.

The Citizens reached the European championship final in the 2020/2021 campaign before losing to their Premier League rivals, Chelsea, in the final. The victory against Real Madrid made Pep Guardiola’s squad the hottest favorite to win this season’s European tournament.

Furthermore, Manchester City still get a chance to win three titles: Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League. When Sir Alex Ferguson took charge, Manchester United won all those three titles in the 1998/1999 season.

Manchester City will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final in Wembley a few days after the Premier League finishes. Also, Manchester City will likely defend their Premier League title after removing Arsenal from the table. Phil Foden and colleagues have collected 85 points from 35 games this season so far, four points ahead of The Gunners.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are also hungry for their first European trophy after a 13-year wait. Nerazurri won their UEFA Champions League in 2009/2010 by beating Bayern Munchen in the final.

AC Milan strikes back

Two years later, AC Milan beat Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League finals at Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece.

Meanwhile, the last night’s result gives some hope for Inter Milan after a 13-year wait when they won the UEFA Champions League title under Jose Mourinho’s leadership.

In the 2009/2010 season. The Portuguese manager helped Inter to win three titles: Serie A, UEFA Champions League, and Coppa Italia.

Jose Mourinho, one of the world’s most decorated football managers, is now the manager of AS Roma.

The second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals between AC Milan and Inter Milan will be held on Tuesday (May 16) at Giuseppe Meazza (Inter’s home base).

Brighton defeated Manchester United in a last minute thriller to put further pressure on their top 4 aspirations in the Premier League.

MacAllister penalty shocks Man Utd in a dramatic match

The host Brighton shocked Manchester United due to the stoppage time penalty in the Premier League match Gameweek 34 on Thursday. The match was a revenge for both teams. Brighton humiliated the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the Premier League’s first match of the season. And Manchester United beat the Seagulls in the FA Cup semifinals on a penalty shoot-out two weeks ago.

Both teams attacked each other. The visiting team almost scored the opener, but Anthony’s shot went wide in the 2nd minute. Two minutes later, the home team should have scored if Kaoru Mitoma’s shot had not hit David De Gea’s head.

Both teams continued to attack and put pressure on each other. Jason Steele was outstanding when he quickly denied Marcus Rashford’s shot.

Brighton dominated the second half

Roberto De Zerbi’s men dominated the second half. However, they got frustrated thanks to the visiting team’s solid defense. Steele deserved to be the man of the match after the goalkeeper saved Bruno Fernandes’ ball. De Gea was also a hero for The Red Devils when he denied a close-range shot from Pervis Estupian. The game seemed to end until Luke Shaw’s handball sent a disaster for the visiting side. The referees decided to give a penalty for the home team after watching VAR.

Alexis MacAllister scored the decisive penalty in the 99th minute. Eight yellow cards were shown in the entertaining game.

Brighton’s race for European football continues as MacAllister secures win

The Seagulls’ dramatic win at home sent them to sixth at the table. At the same time, Manchester United remained at fourth. Brighton are facing Everton, while Manchester United are playing against West Ham this weekend.

Manchester City defeated West Ham in a total domination of a game and took back the 1st place spot in the Premier League.

Manchester City stun West Ham as Haaland sets a new record

Manchester City removed Arsenal from the top of the table after winning 3-0 over West Ham at Etihad on the Premier League Game Week 34 Wednesday. Erling Haaland scored one, setting a new record for the number of goals in a single campaign in the domestic competition (35). The Citizens almost scored the opener in the ninth minute when Riyad Mahrez fired a shot outside the penalty box. However, West Ham’s Lukas Fabianski saved the ball.

West Ham forced the home team to an endless draw in the first half after several attempts from Riyad Mahrez, and Haaland failed to score the opener for the Premier League defending champions. Nathan Ake came to score after heading a ball from Mahrez’s free kick in the 50th minute. Haaland doubled the victory for the Citizens 20 minutes after finishing Jack Grealish’s pass. Phil Foden scored five minutes before the final whistle, booking the club’s 1,000th goal under Pep Guardiola.
