A Mouth-watering deal for Messi

Lionel Messi’s future remains uncertain, even after playing his final game for PSG on Saturday. There are reports suggesting that he has already agreed to move to Saudi Arabia.

According to one outlet, Lionel Messi’s camp has reportedly accepted a £1 billion offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

As Messi concludes his two-season spell at Paris Saint-Germain with the final game, his appearance at the Parc des Princes came after a brief suspension by PSG due to an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia. This incident has fueled speculation about Messi potentially moving to the Middle East once his contract expires at the end of the season. However, Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, has categorically denied these rumors.

Foot Mercato has now released a new report stating that Al-Hilal has overcome a major hurdle by reaching an agreement with Messi’s entourage. The French outlet claims that Messi’s camp has accepted a deal that would see him earn an astonishing sum of nearly £1 billion (€1.2 billion) over two years, equivalent to approximately £500 million per year. This amount surpasses the earnings of Messi’s former Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al-Hilal’s rivals Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

Despite previous reservations expressed by Jorge Messi, Foot Mercato claims that the agent has already agreed to the offer, which would grant him the highest commission from a transfer in football history. Interestingly, this development comes despite Messi’s preference to return to his boyhood club Barcelona, where he achieved tremendous success, winning four Champions League titles and spending the majority of his career. However, Barcelona’s dire financial situation forced him to leave the club.

It is worth noting that two of Messi’s former Barcelona teammates and close friends, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, will also depart the Catalan club at the end of the season. While there have been rumors of the three reuniting at Al-Hilal, Busquets firmly denies that any agreement has been reached. In response to a question about Messi accepting an offer from Saudi Arabia, Busquets stated, “No, no, surely not. I give you my word.”

Tielemans move to Aston Villa confirmed

Aston Villa fans have expressed their praise for the club’s “impressive deal” after securing the signing of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer.

The fans of the Midlands club are currently elated following their qualification for next season’s Europa Conference League. Unai Emery has revived the will among Villa fans, turning the team’s fortunes around in less than nine months since taking over from the dismissed Steven Gerrard.

The former Arsenal manager has further solidified his position in the hearts of Villa fans by acquiring the services of the former Leicester City midfielder. Although Tielemans couldn’t help the Foxes avoid relegation from the Premier League, he holds an exceptional reputation in the division and has previously been linked with lucrative moves to Arsenal, Chelsea, and other clubs.

Tielemans will be Villa’s first signing of the new season, and the passionate Villans’ reactions indicate that the club has started the transfer window with a bang.

“Fantastic piece of business,” expressed one jubilant Villa supporter. “What an amazing signing,” quickly followed another. A neutral fan tweeted, acknowledging the shrewdness of Villa’s business, stating, “Good signing for Villa. Wasn’t long ago he was strongly linked to CL sides.”

“Wow, that’s a very exciting signing for Villa,” wrote a second neutral observer. Among the reactions, one dedicated Villa supporter defiantly taunted fans of the so-called ‘big six’ clubs, stating, “Wow, Villa just robbed the top six.” Despite being only 26 years old, Tielemans brings significant experience to the team.

The Reds loses interest in Sancho

Tottenham are contemplating a £50 million move for Jadon Sancho, the winger currently playing for Manchester United.

The 23-year-old star has faced challenges with fitness and form in the past year, prompting Reds manager Erik ten Hag to send him to the Netherlands for recovery midway through last season, both physically and mentally. While there was initially some improvement following his break, his performances have mostly been inconsistent at best.

As Sancho no longer enjoys an automatic spot in the England squad, with his exclusion from the Euro qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, other clubs are closely monitoring his situation. Tottenham is one of those clubs, as they aim to regroup and rebuild under newly-appointed manager Ange Postecoglou in his first campaign. Negotiations for James Maddison, the playmaker from relegated Leicester City, began last week.

In addition to their £40 million offer for Maddison, Spurs are now ready to enter the race for Sancho, who has earned 23 caps for the Three Lions. Manchester United, who spent £72.9 million to acquire Sancho from Borussia Dortmund two years ago, are likely to demand close to £60 million for any potential deal. Dortmund has also expressed interest in bringing back the former Manchester City youth product, but only on a season-long loan.

Such a loan arrangement is not favorable for the Premier League giants. Without an imminent takeover on the horizon, Ten Hag understands that he must generate funds to invest in other areas crucial for his team’s progress.

This is why Tottenham believes it is worth testing United’s determination to retain a player who has yet to reach the heights he achieved as a teenager in Germany. Sancho’s most recent opportunity to shine came in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, where United’s Brazilian winger Antony was sidelined due to injury. However, Sancho failed to leave a significant impact and was substituted in the second half of the 2-1 defeat, further raising doubts about his ability to secure a regular spot in Ten Hag’s starting lineup.

Meanwhile, United is actively pursuing a £100 million deal for Tottenham’s captain, Harry Kane, while the North London club has been linked with a move for Harry Maguire, a defender from Old Trafford.

Overhauling the Blues

Reports suggest that more than six Chelsea players have expressed their desire to leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

After a tumultuous season filled with chaos both on and off the pitch, the Blues are bracing themselves for another period of significant changes. The season concluded on a lackluster note with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, May 28.

Former interim manager Frank Lampard, who only managed to secure one victory out of the 11 games he oversaw, has now been officially replaced by Mauricio Pochettino, marking a much-needed fresh start for the club.

However, Pochettino and the board face a challenging task in the months ahead as they seek to unite a squad that has been severely lacking in motivation and confidence. The report suggests that Lampard faced significant difficulties in rallying the team following their Champions League elimination at the hands of Real Madrid.

Under Pochettino’s management, a change in the team’s mentality is expected. The Argentine coach is known for his demanding training methods and has employed various tactics throughout his managerial career to enhance player mindset, such as engaging them in activities like walking over hot coals.

Regarding transfers, it appears that players like Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are unlikely to remain at the club. Additionally, club captain Cesar Azpilicueta may also be on his way out.

Chelsea is reportedly targeting a goalkeeper, midfielder, and striker in the market as they continue their active pursuit of signings. One of their targets is Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte, and there have been rumors of a potential reunion between Pochettino and Harry Kane. The club’s owner, Todd Boehly, has shown no signs of slowing down in terms of investment.

Chelsea are likely to see Mason Mount join Manchester United and Mateo Kovacic join Manchester City.

Both midfielders are approaching the final year of their contracts with the Blues, indicating their probable departure from Stamford Bridge this summer. Mount’s potential availability has attracted interest from clubs such as Liverpool and Arsenal in recent months. As a result, Chelsea has granted City permission to initiate talks with Kovacic, who has expressed a desire to join the Premier League champions despite interest from Bayern Munich and other clubs.

The potential departures of Mount and Kovacic could mark the beginning of a significant midfield overhaul under Pochettino. N’Golo Kante’s contract is expiring next month, and negotiations for an extension are not progressing positively. AC Milan is nearing the signing of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, while Conor Gallagher’s future at the club remains uncertain. Additionally, Denis Zakaria’s loan move from Juventus will not be made permanent.

One player certain to stay is Enzo Fernandez. Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte has already been identified as a transfer target, and Pochettino is also interested in recruiting a new goalkeeper and striker.

There are also speculations surrounding the potential departures of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kalidou Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Pulisic, Trevoh Chalobah, Hakim Ziyech, and Cesar Azpilicueta from the club.

Champions League Final Review

Manchester City have clinched the treble for the 2022-23 season by defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

Even though Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal are among the world’s top teams, they all suffered heavy defeats during Manchester City’s pursuit of the treble. While not many teams managed to trouble Manchester City this season, Inter’s intense high-pressing tactics disrupted City’s rhythm for significant periods of the game.

In the 36th minute of the match, Guardiola’s team was forced to make a substitution when De Bruyne, who was struggling with a hamstring injury, was replaced by Phil Foden. Despite De Bruyne’s attempts to overcome the issue, he was ultimately unsuccessful, leading to the first change in the final.

For a club that has historically lived in the shadow of their illustrious neighbors Manchester United, this has been a long journey. The transformation of the club began when Sheikh Mansour, an Abu Dhabi royal, purchased the team in 2008 and was further propelled by the arrival of esteemed manager Pep Guardiola in 2016. The rest is history, as they say.

Manchester City fought their way into the history books, triumphing in the face of adversity, to secure their first UEFA Champions League title. This achievement completes the treble, following their victories in this season’s FA Cup and Premier League, making them only the second English club to accomplish this feat.

In a tense night in Istanbul, despite the loss of their Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne to injury in the 35th minute, City seized control of the game in the 68th minute with one of their few shots on target, securing the final piece of silverware.

Such a domestic and European treble has only been achieved once before, by their local rivals Manchester United in the 1998-99 season, during a time when City was struggling to climb out of the third tier of domestic leagues.

Nervousness was palpable both on and off the pitch right from the start. City seemed to lose their usual fluidity and precision, with stray passes and anxious expressions replacing their Premier League dominance.

Throughout the game, the Italians appeared to have the upper hand, although their opportunities to score were limited.

City’s star striker Erling Haaland, surprisingly, missed two chances in the first 20 minutes. While these may not have been clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities for any other striker, his exceptional abilities would have typically resulted in at least one goal. Passes continued to go astray, and nerves were evident.

De Bruyne’s Saga

Then, De Bruyne’s dream turned into a nightmare as he suffered a hamstring strain. The midfielder tried to continue playing, but as he was signaled to leave the field, there was a hint of tears in his eyes. “I’m okay,” he mouthed as his teammates came to offer their support while he limped off.

Inter, who finished third in Serie A, won their most recent of three Champions League titles in 2010 under the management of José Mourinho, and they showed great determination.

Suddenly, in the 68th minute, as Haaland appealed for a handball in the Inter penalty area, an opportunity presented itself in the middle of the box to Rodri, a defensive player with a talent for scoring crucial goals. He calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net from 16 yards, prompting City’s bench to storm the field.

Inter Milan pushed forward and had chances to equalize in the closing stages, but Romelu Lukaku, the substitute striker, was wasteful in front of goal. As the final whistle blew, City players threw themselves to the ground in celebration.

A Spell Crushed

By winning the top European trophy, Manchester City has surely dispelled any lingering doubts about the team’s ability, following a series of disappointing campaigns and their loss to Chelsea in the 2021 final in Porto.

However, the journey City undertook was unforeseen and proved to be uncomfortable and unpleasant, with a greater degree of challenges than anyone could have anticipated. Such unexpected occurrences are a common aspect of sports. In terms of determining the best team in the world, the final result was indeed the rightful outcome. Nevertheless, it served as a reminder that a determined and hungry underdog has the ability to unsettle even the most dominant and favored team.

On the other hand, Simone Inzaghi and his Inter players can take pride in the fact that they matched City’s performance, despite ultimately losing the final by a score of 1-0. In fact, they even outperformed City in various statistical categories, such as expected goals (1.80 to 0.93), shots on goal (14-7), shots on target (6-4), and big chances missed (4-2).

A Glimmer of Hope or what?

The last incident will be particularly painful for Romelu Lukaku, who previously played for Manchester United, City’s cross-town rival. He unintentionally blocked Federico Dimarco’s header that was heading towards the goal with 20 minutes remaining in the game. Then, in the 89th minute, with the entire goal to aim at, Lukaku placed a weak header right where Ederson, with his lightning-fast reflexes, could make a save.

Manchester City entered the intense atmosphere of the Ataturk Olympic Stadium as the overwhelming favorites, perhaps the biggest favorites they’ve been in the past twenty years. Many, including the bookmakers, believed that City’s victory was inevitable. They were up against a team that finished a distant third in Serie A, despite City being the reigning Premier League and FA Cup champions. It was such a significant occasion that even their owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was present to witness this historic event. This was quite remarkable considering that, despite claims of being a passionate fan by those close to him, he had only attended one previous match of the team he has invested over $1 billion in since acquiring it in 2008.

Champions League Preview

Manchester City will surely never have a better chance of winning the Champions League and in turn a famous Treble. That is not to say that Inter are pushovers, but are the weakest of the three teams standing in City’s way for their tilt at history, the others being Premier League runners-up Arsenal and FA Cup finalists Manchester United.

The teams are meeting for the first time and the venue is the biggest club prize, the European Champions League. City has been knocking on the door for some time now, this makes it their second time getting close to lifting their most dreaded trophy. Manchester was beaten in the final against Chelsea last two years and they seem to have learned from their past mistakes with the manner in which they dispatched Bayern and the holders Real Madrid, it is no surprise they are regarded by many as favorites.

Back in the final after 13 years, tactically, Inter is solid at the back and fluid going forward, moving well as a team, with a physically demanding style of play that requires everyone on their A-game. The Nerazzuri defense is a block and they attack as a unit, they have shown themselves to be adept at understudying well their opponent, so the hope is that they defend low and play on the break, but will this be enough to lift the trophy the fourth time?

Adding yet another Premier League trophy and FA Cup crown to his distinguished resume in 2022-23, Guardiola’s list of domestic achievements at the Etihad is endless, but the coveted continental honor has consistently eluded him since he left the comfort of Camp Nou behind.

Although the Nerazzuri’s efforts to stop Napoli from winning the Serie A title were unsuccessful, the focus of pre-match discussions is on Man City’s attempt to win both domestic and continental trophies. However, Simone Inzaghi’s team can achieve a similar level of success. Four months after their victory over Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana, Inter defeated Milan again, this time in the Champions League semifinals, to secure a place in the final and make a grand return to Europe’s biggest stage.

Just eight days after that, Inter won both the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia titles, defeating Fiorentina 2-1 in the latter’s final. This was the first of two final losses for Viola, whose hopes of Europa Conference League triumph were dashed by West Ham United. As the Citizens prepares for its second Champions League final, Inter will aim to avoid a similar fate to their fellow Italian club.

Team Updates

Kyle Walker (RB) for the Citizens wasn’t at the training on Monday and Guardiola confessed he is experiencing trouble in his back, however, Walker dismissed concerns about his fitness, the English should form part of a fully-fit contingent for City, come Saturday.

Erling Haaland (CF), goalscoring prowess could earn him a goal that would see him overtake Ruud van Nistelrooy for the most single Champions League goals for an English team, the hitman has never gone three successive games without a goal in Europe’s tourney.

As for the Nerazzuri, Inter’s ex-Man United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan to a thigh injury in the second leg of his side’s semi-final success over AC Milan, but he’s reportedly winning the battle to be fit for the big stage.

Joaquin Correa, Inter’s attacker is said to have acquired a calf injury against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final, although a spot on the bench will await the 28-year-old if the need arises.

Simone Inzaghi has consistently settled on Martinez and Dzeko as his established strike pairing crunch matches while Romelu Lukaku will also aim to provide impetus from the bench before bidding farewell for the second time. Marcelo Brozovic may get remanded on the sidelines if Mkhitaryan can prove his fitness.

Possible Starting line-ups

Man City:
Ederson; Walker, Dias, Akanji; Stones, Rodri; Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish; Haaland

Inter Milan:
Onana; Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Mkhitaryan, Calhanoglu, Dimarco; Martinez, Dzeko

Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium will host the final on Saturday 10 June 2023. The winners gain a place in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage, if they have not qualified via their domestic campaign.

Transfer Rumors of the Week

– Declan Rice is rumored to be Bayern and Arsenal

The Gunners are in a heated battle to sign Declan Rice from West Ham this Summer, but Manchester and Bayern are also in the race. The race to sign West Ham captain is on the rise as the England international nears the final game with the Hammers. The captain is set to lead his team out in the Europa Conference League final in the coming week as they challenge Fiorentina to the trophy. According to media outlets, Bayern held a meeting with Rice about the possibility of a switch, and the outcome for them is said to be positive. While that may sound true, the overall position following it is still a boost to Arsenal at the moment. It remains to be seen how this all plays out but the north London outfit will have to sit tight for now, awaiting the European finals to play out first.

Benzema is Going To Saudi

The Saudi government has decided to inject $20 BILLION to develop the top Saudi clubs and thus give credibility to their league. They want to sign lots of “big names”.  With Ronaldo is earning £173million-a-year with Al Nassr while players such as Lionel Messi and other football icons have been approached. Benzema reportedly became the latest footballer to be offered huge sums of money to make the move to the Saudi Pro League. Although the Frenchman has just one year left on his contract with Real Madrid, questions have been raised about his future at the Bernabeu. Reports stated that Benzema had his head turned by an eye-watering offer from Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad. He had reportedly informed Carlo Ancelotti that he wanted to leave Real to join up with the Saudi side, although a fee between the two clubs hadn’t been agreed.

Harry Kane remains Real Madrid’s target to replace Karim Benzema and the Tottenham striker is willing to make the move. Although Man United is also bidding for the Spurs striker, Daniel Levy, Spurs chairman will be willing to sell only to a club outside the Premier League which gives Real Madrid an upper hand in negotiations to bid below the asking price for the sale of the England national which was set at £100m. Kane, 29, has a year left on his deal at Spurs, this could be their chance to cash in on the striker.

Where goes Messi?

Lionel Messi is expected to decide on his future over the coming hours – at most, days. Currently, he has two lucrative offers on the table: One from Saudi Arabia, and one from Miami. Over the past couple of days, the idea of going to Miami has become a reality for the player as this guarantees his family’s safety and comfort. However, the middle east, is a much more lucrative one, offering him more money: Messi is expected to take on a role within something of a State project that has been set up by the government with him and Cristiano Ronaldo has the poster boys.

Ugarte is going to Chelsea

Chelsea is set to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting CP with the mid-fielder having agreed to join the Premier League side on a transfer that could cost up to €65 million.

A Portuguese media outlet states that Ugarte has picked the Blues over interests from PSG who has offered the Uruguay international a better wage package than the London side. He is a player noted for his enormous defensive qualities, which is something that Chelsea has missed in their midfield throughout what has been a very difficult season.

There has been previous interest from England’s top flight, Liverpool but it is said the Old Lady pulled out of the deal fearful that the player’s €60m release clause was excessive.

The former Famalicao player’s desire to play in the Premier League is underlined by the fact that he turned down substantially higher wages at PSG to join Chelsea. Reports from Portugal stated that the French club offered him €5m per season to join whereas he will only be paid around €3.5m with Pochettino’s side.

Ugarte will play alongside fellow South American Enzo Fernandez at the heart of the Chelsea Midfield next season.

Mac Allister to Liverpool

Reports were on the rise last week that Mac Allister is close to reaching a personal agreement with the Reds over a summer move, as Premier League champions Manchester City refrained from making an offer despite reports of their interest.

The Brighton midfielder is set to be joining the Reds this summer and no other destinations have emerged, what’s yet to be known is “at what cost?” with Romano also stating earlier in the week that it will be ‘much less’ than €75m.

Whatever the cost is, Mac Allister could yet be the first signing of the summer for the Old Lady, but much more work has to be done after that to get Jürgen Klopp’s squad into shape.

Premier League Season Review

Team of the Season

Stars from Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle and Manchester City make the cut for the top combined XI of the campaign. With the 2022/23 season Premier League being confined to the sands of time, Manchester City gets its hands on the trophy once again, just edging out Mikel Arteta’s impressive Arsenal side in an exciting title race.

There’s been so many outstanding performers during yet another dramatic campaign in the English top flight, from the brilliance of Bukayo Saka and Kevin De Bruyne to the goalscoring heroics of Erling Haaland.

But who has done enough to be part of the Premier League Team of the Season for 2022-23?

GK: Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal)

There have been few contenders for the goalie’s spot. No doubt no keeper kept a more clean sheet than David de Gea, as the Spanish shot-stopper leads the Golden Glove race with 15 clean sheets ahead of his contemporaries. But despite that, the Manchester United stopper has had a far from convincing season. On the other hand, Aaron Ramsdale has been largely excellent for Arsenal with some exceptional saves, there’s definitely some tough competition in net, but the Gunners star gets the nod.

Without an iota of doubt, Newcastle (27) and Man City (30) have conceded significantly fewer goals than Arsenal (39), but 24-year-old novice Ramsdale, in just his second season at the Emirates, has locked down the No 1 jersey.

RB: Kieran Trippier (Newcastle)

Kieran Trippier has been a God-sent at Newcastle since his move from Atletico Madrid in the early months of 2022, and has played a critical role in Eddie Howe’s side securing qualification  for the Champions League this season.

He has solidified the defense, making it impenetrable from the onslaughts of attacks, and going forward he has been an exceptional supply line for the Magpie’s forward, creating problems repeatedly with the quality of delivery, both from open play and set-pieces. He had seven league assists and a goal.

Gunners Ben White deserves a mention for his outstanding feat for Arsenal with his incredibly consistent and his support with Bukayo Saka but Trippier sealed this one.

CB: William Saliba (Arsenal) and Lisandro Martinez (Man Utd)

What a debut season it’s been for both star players in the Premier League. They both started the campaign with doubts from their critics but those critics have long been silenced.

As for the Frenchman, his injury may have played a huge role in Mikel Arteta’s side missing out to Manchester City in the title race.

Like Saliba, Lisandro Martinez missed the end of the season due to injury, but prior to his spell on the sidelines he had been sensational at the heart of the United defense. His aggression, will to win and his technical ability really make him stand out. No doubt he’s been a fine addition to the Premier League.

LB: Nathan Ake (Man City)

Much can be said that three Manchester City players who were up for the club’s Player of the season were the goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland, the midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne and the enigma of defense Nathan Ake, given the latter’s status compared to two genuine superstars of the game.

When Pep began using Ake as cover in the left-back role, many thought it could be a weakness that City’s opponents could take advantage of, on the contrary, Ake has been so impressive and has made a name in City’s team sheet.

Luke Shaw (Man Utd) has had a good season, while Oleksandr Zinchenko has made a transformative impact at Arsenal, but Ake aced top in the left-back battle.

DM: Casemiro (Man Utd), CM: Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), CM: Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)

In midfield, the trio largely picked themselves with their painstaking impact in their respective team. Casemiro, a former Real madrid maestro made a transformative effect on his new club, has brought a genuine title-winning experience and pedigree to Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils.

On either side of him are Kevin De Bruyne, the playmaker-in-chief of  Pep’s complicated orchestra, and potentially one of the best pieces of transfer in the last few years of the Premier League. At Just £30 million Martin Odegaard has  proven to be an absolute steal for Arsenal. With 15 Premier League goals, that’s more than any other midfielder for the Gunners in a single season in Premier League history. His work rate, his vision and leadership remained a constant driving force that his team-mates have fed off.

CF: Erling Haaland (Man City), LW: Mohammed Salah (Liverpool), RW: Marcus Rashford (Man Utd)

Up front, it’s the three that commands respect and cast fear in the hearts of any opposition players unfortunate enough to meet them. What can you say? An absolute goal scoring machine who has taken the Premier League by storm and ripped up the record books in his debut season in England. Enough said, Harry Kane of Tottenham has been remarkable but there’s only one striker spot in the team and it goes to the 51-goal man.

On the right, Mohamed Salah has been a rare spark of light in a disappointing Liverpool season, with 29 goals and 11 assists.

For Rashford, the season turned out great, with him bearing the burden of driving United’s bid for Champions League qualification by himself in terms of his attacking output.

A tally of 17 league goals is an excellent return from a player who commenced the season with many questioning his known competence, he rediscovered his best form yet again and it’s a joy to watch him in full flow cutting in from the left wing.

– Biggest Overachievers

Brighton and Brentford are the biggest overachievers in the Premier League according to wages spent. Brentford remain the club overachieving the most.

Brighton with lots of similarities with Brentford have come through the leagues with a unique style of play and gone on to upset the established elites, with a plus eight positional difference as they sit sixth after having the 14th highest wage bill.

– Biggest Underachievers

Chelsea were undoubtedly the biggest underachievers, with their £600 million outlay on new players helping them attain the lofty heights of 12th on the table. The figures are much damning for the blues as this gives hope to smaller clubs that in spite of big spenders elsewhere, it won’t always guarantee success – and there are no better examples of that than Brentford and Brighton.

The young player of the 2022/23 Premier League season has been confirmed in an official statement by the English FA.

Following an eventful 2022/23 premier league season and the discovery of some of the biggest young talents in football, on the 18th of May 2023, eight nominees were announced for the Premier League Young Player of the season award due to the impact they made in their various roles for the entire season.

On top of the List is Erling Haaland (Man City)

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)

Sven Botman (Newcastle United)

Moises Caicedo (Brighton Hove Albion)

Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)

Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton Hove Albion)

Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal)

Erling Halaand was crowned the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award following his impressive and noteworthy form in the 2022/23 season at Manchester City. With 36 goals in his debut season in the premier league, he became the first and only player in the Premier League’s history to be crowned the Player of the season and the the Young Player of the season in the same year.

– Player of the Season

Erling Haaland earned the player of the season award after his outstanding performance in the Premier League this season, the young player is regarded as a lab-created goalmonster sent from the future to destroy the present. Haaland isn’t the best in everything – there have been and still are more skillful and innovative center-forwards. But the overall package of power and timing, of willingness and positioning, are like nothing the game has ever seen – and he’s still improving.

– Playmaker of the Year

The Castrol Playmaker of the Season honor goes to none other than Kevin De Bruyne. With 16 assists overall, De Bruyne records the most in a Premier League season for the the third time in his professional endeavor. Was honored with the title in 2017/18 and 2019/20.

– Goalkeeper of the Year

David De Gea remained the recipient of the Golden Glove award for his exceptional feat in the net during the 2022/23 Premier League Season. The shot-stopper established himself as United’s best custodian by keeping the most clean sheets.

His 17 clean sheets in the competition were crucial for the Red Devils as they finished third in the league table.

– Manager of the Year

Pep Guardiola has been confirmed as the 2022/23 Premier League Manager of the Season. The City boss has held on to this award for the fourth time in his seventh campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea FC New Coach: What can we expect?

Chelsea made its third appointment for a permanent manager inside a year after its declaration of Pochettino on 29 May, 2023. With the season ending in a turmoil at Stamford Bridge that had four managers, £600m spent and a 12th-placed dismal finish, the Argentine knows a lot of work needs to be done. Graham Potter was given the reins to manage Chelsea last September on a five-year deal with the hope of creating a long-term strategy under the Todd Boehly-Clearlake ownership, who made the decision to ditch Champions League-winning Thomas Tuchel after a slightly bad start to the season. After six months and just 29 league goals, the new owners lost interest in the continuity of the contract and a replacement became imminent.

Who Are the Candidates?

At the time Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, both free agents after their contracts got abruptly truncated by Spain and Bayern Munich respectively, were the initial frontrunners, prior to Mauricio Pochettino’s interview. “Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward,” said the clubs co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

“He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.” Bruno Saltor took charge of one game as interim  head coach but had little interest in remaining in the role so former player and sacked manager Frank Lampard assumed the role for the rest of the season. Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner was also on the shortlist. Napoli’s Luciano Spaletti was never a likely option with his team closing in – and now winning – a historic Italian league title.

The Declaration

Pochettino emerged as the favorite to permanently succeed Graham Potter following a series of positive talks between the Argentine and Chelsea. The move towards Pochettino was welcomed in the Chelsea dressing-room, with players said to be positive and excited about his appointment. Pochettino’s conversations have focused around fitness concerns, in particular a need for a settled squad in pre-season and a manageable schedule. He has made it clear he is willing to work with current assets whilst also not being afraid to cut players out.

Coaching Style

Pochettino is known to play an attacking style of football and mostly uses a similar formation at the clubs he manages. He gives his squad instructions to build from the back, use a quick-pressing strategy to frighten and unnerve opponents and work the ball into the box. Pochettino has an excellent track record of bonding with and developing young players. If the Blues are to be molded into a real force again the progression of Mykailo Mudryk, Wesley Fofana, Enzo Fernandez, etc will be paramount.

Previous Appointments

Poch began his managerial career in Espanyol in 2009 with the team struggling to survive relegation. Upon joining Espanyol, his task was to ransom the team from the imminent relegation. He had only recently acquired his UEFA Pro License in December 2008, and aside from a brief stint as the women’s team assistant coach, he had no prior coaching experience. His first match was home with FC Barcelona, coached by Pep Guardiola, in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey which ended in a 0-0 draw.

Espanyol concluded the season comfortably without being relegated. Their most praiseworthy performance was a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the league rivalry, which was their first at Camp Nou in the competition in 27 years. In January 2013, he joined Southampton where he spent just a season before joining Tottenham in 2014.

He led Tottenham to two finals during his years, the Carabao Cup and Champions League final but lost both finals. He was then sacked in 2019 after a poor season. He moved to PSG in 2021 where he won three first major trophies in one and a half years before leaving in 2022.

Chelsea become the fifth club to be managed by new boss Mauricio Pochettino in his 14 year managerial career. Pochettino spent six years managing in the Premier League.

As a manager, he bagged very few trophies; Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions at Paris Saint Germain. He won the Premier League Manager of the Month four times during his years in England and was also given the London Football Awards Manager of the Year in 2018.

Manchester City reached the Champions league final after thrashing the defending champions Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad in the semifinals.

Manchester City reach UEFA Champions League final

Manchester City are closer to their first-ever European trophy for the first time after humiliating the reigning champions Real Madrid 4-0 at Etihad in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal.

The huge win makes the Citizens win 5-1 on aggregate. Previously, in the first leg of the semifinal at Bernabeu last week, Manchester City forced the home team to play in an exciting 1-1 draw, thanks to a stunning goal from Kevin de Bruyne.

Manchester City almost scored the opener in the 6th minute, but Rodri’s went too wide. Bernardo Silva scored the first goal for the English Premier League’s giants in the 23rd minute, followed by the second in the 37th.

The Portuguese midfielder equals the records of Lionel Messi (2011) and Robert Lewandowski (2013) as the player who scored a brace in the UEFA Champions League semifinals. As of 30 minutes of the first half, Manchester City controlled the game with 76 percent of ball possession.

Manchester City’s dominant display adds misery to the 14-time champions of Europe.

Manchester City dominated the game, reaching 67 percent of ball possession in the second half. David Alaba’s free-kick almost gave Los Blancos some hope before being saved by Ederson Moraes. Manchester City’s goal machine Erling Haaland got closer to Thibaut Courtois, but the Belgian goalkeeper denied the Norwegian’s shot.

Manuel Akanji took the ball from Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick, making it 3-0 for the reigning Premier League champions. However, the goal was considered an own goal as the ball touched Eder Militao before entering El Real’s goal. Julian Alvarez added misery to Carlo Ancelotti’s men, ending Real Madrid’s hopes to defend the title this season.

Manchester City are predicted to beat Inter Milan in this season’s UEFA Champions League final

Manchester City’s outstanding victory against the defending champions Real Madrid secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League final. Manchester City will play against Inter Milan—who in the semifinal beat city rivals AC Milan 3-0 on aggregate—in the UEFA Champions League final this season, held in Istanbul, Turkiye on June 10.

The Citizens reached the European championship final in the 2020/2021 campaign before losing to their Premier League rivals, Chelsea, in the final. The victory against Real Madrid made Pep Guardiola’s squad the hottest favorite to win this season’s European tournament.

Furthermore, Manchester City still get a chance to win three titles: Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League. When Sir Alex Ferguson took charge, Manchester United won all those three titles in the 1998/1999 season.

Manchester City will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final in Wembley a few days after the Premier League finishes. Also, Manchester City will likely defend their Premier League title after removing Arsenal from the table. Phil Foden and colleagues have collected 85 points from 35 games this season so far, four points ahead of The Gunners.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are also hungry for their first European trophy after a 13-year wait. Nerazurri won their UEFA Champions League in 2009/2010 by beating Bayern Munchen in the final.

Inter Milan are in the UEFA Champions League final

Elated it outmatched its city rivals, AC Milan, Inter Milan made it to the finals in Champions league in a show of competency and mastery of the game.

After its two-goal lead into the second leg, The Black and Blues need not wield much effort in attack but rather consolidated its midfield battle to abort every effort of its guest.

The first half turned out to be headstrong with the two keepers geared into action, Andre Onana buried what could have been ‘a beacon of light in the tunnel’ goal from Brahim Diaz on the tenth minute. Dzeko ensured he was fouled and earned the team a free-kick to be played by the Turkish Calhanoglu at the thirty-eight minute of play, the volleyed in and a superbly-shocking header from Dzeko was abruptly stopped by Mike Maignan.

Inter Milan suffocate AC Milan in Champions League semifinal

After the half-time break, Milan didn’t  look like breaking through their host’s fortified defense. The substitution of Edin Dzeko for Romelu Lukaku at sixty-sixth minute of the game ensured an assist that sealed the victory for the Nerazzurri.

The goal from Lautaro Martinez placed the Aggregate to 3-0 which came in after the seventy-third minute.

Tonight’s match between Real Madrid and Man City decides which team meets Inter Milan in the finals, the finals will be played at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey on 10 June 2023.

Inter Milan sealed a 2-0 victory over their city rivals AC Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals at San Siro on Wednesday.

Inter Milan scored the opener in the 8th minute when their veteran striker Edin Dzeko brilliantly volleyed a corner from Hakan Calhanoglu.

The derby heated when Inter doubled three minutes after Henrik Mkhitaryan received the pass from Federico Dimarco.

The referee almost awarded Inter a penalty in the 31st minute when AC Milan captain Simon Kjaer fouled Lautaro Martinez. However, the referee overturned the penalty’s decision after a VAR review.

AC Milan strikes back

The home team retaliated in the second half. Junior Messias should have scored the opener for Rossoneri if his shot had not widened.

Sandro Tonali almost made it for Milan, but his shot hit the post in the 63rd minute.

Edin Dzeko sought the guest’s third goal, but Mike Maignan brilliantly denied the former Manchester City forward’s shot.

AC Milan’s defense saved Matteo Darmian’s shot in the 73rd minute.

The game was more balanced in the second half. The hosts did not score a single goal, and Simone Inzaghi’s men put one foot in the UEFA Champions League finals.

AC Milan’s first defeat to city rivals and Inter’s UCL Champions League dream after 13 years.

Wednesday’s derby was the fifth meeting of both Italian giants in the UEFA Champions League. The 0-2 defeat was AC Milan’s first loss to its city rivals in the European competition.

Milan-based outfits met in the UEFA Champions League semifinals in 2002/2003. Milan won and advanced to the final to meet another Italian rival Juventus (Rossoneri won the UEFA Champions League final in a penalty shootout).

They met again in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in the 2004/2005 campaign. Again Milan won both legs.At that time, Milan went to the final before losing to Liverpool in the most dramatic final in Istanbul, Turkey.

Two years later, AC Milan beat Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League finals at Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece.

Meanwhile, the last night’s result gives some hope for Inter Milan after a 13-year wait when they won the UEFA Champions League title under Jose Mourinho’s leadership.

In the 2009/2010 season. The Portuguese manager helped Inter to win three titles: Serie A, UEFA Champions League, and Coppa Italia.

Jose Mourinho, one of the world’s most decorated football managers, is now the manager of AS Roma.

The second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals between AC Milan and Inter Milan will be held on Tuesday (May 16) at Giuseppe Meazza (Inter’s home base).
